The Place

I believe the place chooses us
we don't choose it
and once it chooses us it never lets go.
It is with us in the good times and the hard times
and those of us who are chosen are the lucky ones.

Poem about West Head

This little village, I love it still
The weather is cold because I live on a hill.
When spring arrives, how sweet the air,
I love it more, than everywhere.

In early May, mayflowers bring,
in early June, birds come to sing.
Then July, yes, we have our fog,
birds nesting still on the bakeapple bog.

In August, pink clover in the fields,
beet greens from the garden yields.
September, to me, beats them all,
October cool, you're nearing fall.

November with its frosty nights,
make cranberries red and delicious ripe.
December with its early snow,
fishermen after lobsters go.

The other months are not so good,
we pack our sheds with dry hardwood.
And take it easy and keep the animals feed,
this story's end about West Head.

Short Stories and Poems / From a Fisherman's Heart / Eugene R. Roache

Bought this book in January 2008 in the drugstore in Lockeport. At this time I hadn't been in West Head and  I didn' t guess to own one day land on this Peninsula. Today I read in the book,  Eugene Roache lived at the end of West Head. Not far from me.

White Point in the Right Corner

The white point in the right corner must be Cape Roseway Lighthouse on McNutt's Island, where Anne lives.
Today I registered the first time the lighthouse in the back of the picture. The fir trees belongs to my land in West Head................. I wave my hands to Anne !!!

Driftwood - Crocodile

Tomi Ungerer

Lobster Traps

Sunset in West Head

Mai 2009

West Head Peninsula

Was ist West Head ?

You can walk through fields of flowers and enjoy a great view of Gull Rock Lighthouse. Here is a bird watcher's haven on the edge of the continent, next stop ...... NORTH AFRICA.

West Head is the narrow headland, unlike any other, that boldly stretches into the rugged Atlantic Ocean in Shelburne County, the southern most area in Nova Scotia. It is five minutes from the Town of Lockport, known for its rich fishing history and the magnificent Crescent Beach. The Historic Town of Shelburne with all the amenities, and home to Canada's greatest number of 18th century wooden homes is thirty minutes away. Yarmouth, the terminal for the two ferries from Maine, is 1 1/2 hours away and Halifax and its International Airport 2 1/2 hours. West Head.....basking seals, a myriad of coastal and shore birds plus the crashing waves of the north Atlantic......
